For most of us, no matter how old we are, when summer is over, we know that "playtime" is over. The summer months and soaring humidity always make getting ready for work a cinch each morning...easy, breezy summer dress and sandals or polo shirts and dockers for the guys. But is that attire really appropriate for the office?
Well, we did a little detective work around the world wide web on the subject and here's what beauty experts and etiquette mavens have to say:
Rule #1 - Bare legs- You may be able to get away with it if someone senior does it. Try easing out of strappy sandals into a sling back heel or peep toe look to be more professional. Never, ever wear flip flops!
Rule #2 - Denim - Not unless it's casual Friday. Make sure they are pressed, dark and have no holes.
Rule #3 - Cropped Pants - Be careful on this one...with a heel, they may be acceptable. Stay away from cargo cropped pants and flats.
Rule #4 - Leggings - No, no, no. That about sums it up .
Rule #5 - Spaghetti Strapped Dresses - Nope. That's a look for an evening on the town, but not for the office, especially if you're bearing all. If you must - cover your shoulders and arms with a short cropped sweater or blouse.
It's tough to police every little thing about your kids, but encourage them to wear colorful clothing and not revealing fads. Short shorts, hats and cut-up/out jeans are never a good look. If attention is what they're after, they'll get it. Help them stay focused on what's important. Revealing, trendsetting clothing can be grade-dropping distraction that no student or parent wants.
